    HI there

I just made the ice cream recipe from this site and it said to use thickened cream. I am in New Zealand and I bought the Anchor thickened cream that has gelatine in it. The ice cream tastes really rich and all I can taste is that cream. Is there another cream I could use? Has anyone here in nz made the ice cream.

    Thank you Gwendoline

the thickened cream you got is correct, the thickened cream we get here also contains gelatine (which is how it holds its shape when you whip it).  If the cream taste is overpowering, you could add more milk, add some yoghurt or although your not supposed to you could use light cream instead althogh I would use some more milk instead of some cream (take out 1/4 to 1/2 of the cream and substitute that for milk), it will still turn out the same just less creamy.  You do get used to the taste, I made some vanilla bean ice cream last weekend, it's to die for!

thank you for your reply Janelle

I was wondering if I could just use ordinary cream? Have you ever tried that?

    Cheers Gwendoline

    Hi Gary

Do you whip it up first or just as is? I don't think I can handle the flavour of that thickened cream.
Though I could probably adjust if I had to. I used to hate chamomile tea but now I love it.

    Cheers Gwendoline
