    Can keffir be used in a sugar free diet?  I think the sugars are lactose.

    I've read a little about it and it's really hard to say, the actual grain I would say is fine, however if you buy store bought say kefir products like yoghurt you would definitely have to read the ingredient list (I've read on some sites they add sugar).  Read very carefully and look at the ingredient list.

    Since the sugar containing part of it is usually milk, then the sugar is likely to be lactos or a relative of, and so should be OK.

    If you are buying it ready made, you can check the NIP.
