Hi everyone.
I have been sugar free now for 19 months and 12 months ago decided to stop taking statins. My Doctor half heartedly agreed but during that time my choloesterol has gone from 4.7 to 6.5. I expected it to be on the high side while my body adjusted to being statin free but must admit am feeling really dissapointed that it is so high 12 months down the track. :(
Has anyone else expierienced a similair problem? I understand that no one can give me medical advice but was just wondering if anyone else has been in this positiion. I still believe that a high choloesterol reading does not necessary mean heart disease, as David mentions in his books.
My blood pressure is very good and I am not overweight although I have been a bit slack during the hot weather re not walking nearly often enough.
Just feeling a bit down at the moment. Everyone I know takes statins and dont have a clue about this sugar free business. Just shake their heads and roll their eyes if I mention it.
Anyhoo, any positive feedback would be great at the moment :)
Good luck to everyone else who has embarked on this great venture. I do believe it is the right way to go.
Cheers
Lynn
Hi Lynette,
Which cholesterol are you talking about? Total, HDL or LDL? To please my doctor I agreed on a 6-month trial of avoiding saturated fats to get my LDL (the dangerous one) down. After 3 months it dropped from 4.3 to 3.9; it's desirable to keep it under 3.5. So I'm ambivalent about saturated fats.
Check David's blog on statins . . they ONLY benefit people who actually have a heart condition. For everyone else they are just an expensive way of thinning your blood, which you can do very cheaply with aspirin. They alo suppress the CoQ-10 which is vital for good health. David's blog is at http://www.raisin-hell.com/2012/03/its-time-to-stop-mainlining-anti.htmlI
Why the heart specialists keep pushing it for people at low risk, is a mystery. Do you have a heart condition or are you assessed as at high risk of CVD ?
Yes I have also read that elevated cholesterol is not really a problem for the elderly but I an't find th reference right now. If you google research for cholesterol and aging you should find it.
