I haven't looked at it Erin (in any detail) ... from my few glances at that section of the supermarket they didn't seem high.  I'll see if I can knock up a quickie sugar guide on soups - it is afterall the season :-)

    Cheers

    David.

Hi Erin, with the few soups I have in my cupboard which are continental brand and 1 home brand.  There is actually quite a mixture of results...

Pea and Ham - Continential - Sugars per Serve: 1.1 - Sweeteners: Matlodestrin and Sugar

Cream of Chicken - Home Brand - Sugars per Serve: 2.2 - Sweeteners: Maltodextrin and Lactose

Hearty Beef - Continental - Sugars per Serve: 1.1 - Sweeteners: Maltodextrin and Lactose

Creamy Mushroom - Contine3ntal - Sugars per Serve: 5.1 - Sweeteners: Glucose Syrup, Lactose and Sugar

Hi, Erin & Janelle, these are the ones I have in my stash....

BRAND                             FLAVOUR                             Sugars per 100g         INGREDIENTS

Continental  (Unilever)         Hearty Duch curry & Rice                 0.9g      Maltodextrin (fom wheat/corn) soy & sugar
ditto                             Croutons Creamy Pumpkin               2.4g       Pretty much as above
Country Cup (Nestle)           Cream of chicken/corn                     0.7g                ditto
ditto                             Pepper Steak & Mushroom                0.9g                ditto
ditto                             Butternut Pumpkin & Ham                 1.3g      Similar, has glucose syrup,no maltodextrin
ditto                             Chicken & Mushroom                        0.5g      Pretty much as first one

Whilst they don't have much sugar, at least some of it comes from glucose syrup, but they all contain, Soy, Wheat & Milk in varying degrees. So ok if we must have a processed food, as long as we don't have too much of it, I guess it's ok, as long as you're not allergic to Wheat, Soy or milk.  I also have a Woolies generic (Home Brand?) chicken & corn, which is my favourite, but Kev chucked the box away, by mistake. Have been known to have one at lunchtime & one before bed to warm me up!!  Is that better than having caffeine, which gives me hot flushes? Jury's out on that one at the mo', as am trialling no caffeine, or almost none, anyway, am trying hard to give up my coffee, am down to one every 2nd day!!   Mostly, tho' just have one cup a soup every 2nd day. I have been trying to have black tea instead, no milk, just Natvia, one sachet. If I can give up tea & coffee, that would be good, as no need for any sweeteners, Natvia included, which I'm not happy about either, as it's made from Erythritol., as well as Reb A Stevia.  Do you think I'm becoming too picky about chemicals? I do have lots of minor symptoms, that together do tend to lower one's quality of life, and are annoying at least & can be nasty at worst. I find that my
diarrhoea has lessened, but when I was having pure Dextrose powder in my drinks, it came back.  I think that was when I made the Anzac biscuits that had the dextrose in them as well!!
It's all a  damned minefield, and can be very confusing. Try to tread the middle road, but it's a very slippery thing.

    Good luck out there, everybody.

Hope this all helps a little, Erin!!!

    SMILE!!
