    Hi,

It's really inspiring to read how long people have been 'fructose free' for and how each of your journeys are progressing. I was wondering if anyone is willing to share what 'fructose free' means for them personally - i.e. have you had any slip ups or deliberate fructose consumption (e.g. at a party) as part of your journey, or do you consider being fructose free strictly the number of days/weeks/months where your consumption of sugar was nil or negligible?

    Hi Chantel

Fructose-free for me means cooking with dextrose when a recipe calls for sugar, avoiding foods with sugar at home and when I'm out, and limiting my fruit intake to 2 per day.  I have deliberately broken my no fructose rule about 5 times in the 14 weeks since I started.  It was always when I was out for dinner or at a party, and always resulted in my feeling depressed and ill the next day, with shocking headaches.  I've enjoyed those treats, but will be thinking hard about it the next time the opportunity arises, as I really didn't like how I felt afterwards!  I also engage in calorie counting, as my appetite control doesn't seem to have kicked in, and it helps me not overeat.

    Good luck with your journey!

    Hi :)

I started the end of January and have lost 4 kilos. Slow going but I do respond to simple carbs and sometimes life gets too busy to prepare a protein meal so it's the wholewheat alternatives. I'll get there though :)

I have no interest in sugar or fructose at all (yay!) People eat all kinds of stuff around me all the time and no interest whatsoever. Last night, I was at a PD session, a bowl of lollies in front of me and I wasn't tempted. Even the packet of tim tams didn't do it. My one treat is a piece of the Aldi organic choc (5g of sugar) once a week. I find it almost too sweet. Dinner tonight was slow cooked meat and veg - almost too sweet!

I do enjoy a cup of cocoa (a whole quarter teaspoon of dextrose lol).

I like my thighs  now ;) My tummy will take longer but it is courtesy of 4 babies, so there's some emotional attachment to it (gotta be some reason my tummy is taking so long to shrink. It is smaller, though, and my hips are smaller as well).

My portion sizes are way down. I don't have to be overfull before I stop eating. I wait to see if I"m still hungry before having seconds. I go a lot longer between meals.

You got me thinking, Chantel.  What it means to me is that I have dropped 3 dress sizes, am wearing smaller knickers, (yay).......and am no longer a slave to sweet things, As long as I keep on my eating regime (refuse to call it a diet) I am loosing weight. Plus I love savoury food, so it's great for me. Another side thing for me is that my arthritis is getting less painful, sometimes I forget to take my tablets, and it really doesn't seem to be worse, like it always was.  Except in my hands.......not sure why that is.....but I find as long as I don't actually 'knock' them on anything hard, they don't ache so much.   Plus my diarrhoea is heaps better. I do have it occasionally, but it must be something else I have an intolerance to, that does it. I think if I have too much dextrose, (in drinks), that will do it.

All in all, I'm in HappyLand right now. I've lost 11.4 kilos, and still loosing slowly. To be super Happy I would need to be walking on a regular basis, but that's still a 'work in progress'.  Maybe when winter is on it's way out....

    Hi Bron

I want to like my thighs too!! The cocoa indulgence sounds good to me also :). Congrats on your weight loss and overall improvements to your health.

Wow, Sylvia - what amazing results you have achieved. Congratulations. It's becoming apparent to me that really, 'treats' (containing fructose) are generally are a non-issue for people eventually. With each day that passes, I can feel that part is getting easier for me too. Thanks for sharing this info with me.
