How Much Sugar?

FF free foods for people who aren't FF

    Hi everyone,

    I've just come back from two weeks with my sister - a sugar-depraved time that I decided I would just go with and would go truly sugar free (seeing it as a plus, a positive rather than a negative deprevation thing) when I got home. So I have one day and so far so good.

    My question comes from reading the bold headings in the the quit plan book about not eating dextrose things until you are completely fructose free because of the bad things the combination does in our body (increasing insulin production etc?). SO.. is it inappropiate to make these things for people who are happily consuming fructose laiden products? Is it putting them in a lot of danger? I ask because my husband is a big consumer of soft drinks, chocolates and other things like that. And it would be a nuisance to have to make things for him and things for me but if it's really bad for him then what choice do you have? And also, when you go out to share things with friends it would also be sad that they couldn't try my foods etc..

    HELP!!!

    Yes I would really like some confirmation on this as well please. I've been sugar free for 10 months now. I feel so very healthy and energized.  I only bake with dextrose these days. My husband is not totally sugar free but has cut down quite a lot. So am I doing him and visitors harm by feeding them dextrose baked foods?  I would rather go back to baking with sugar for others than doing more harm to them.

    All David said was not to eat Dextrose sweets while on withdrawal because the dextrose would still be having the same effect on the insulin as the sugar because the fructose would not have completely left the body. Therefore the useful things like the "Full up monitor" wouldn't kick in and the sugar cravings would not lessen. So withdrawal would take far longer.

    I don't have much dextrose sweetened stuff because I find I do still get sugar cravings, even after 6 months FF.

    I started making dextrose sweetened stuff for my husband as soon as I went FF, not because he had  a weight problem but he did have high cholesterol and sugar.

    The result is that his cholesterol and sugar readings have dropped to an acceptable level and...................to his horror, he has lost weight...................poor darling!

    /Hi everyone. I too am confused about feeding dextrose to my family and young grandchildren who are not obviously sugar free.

    David did mention this in his books. Not to use it until over withdrawal. I find this part very contradictory.

    Would appreciate more info on same.

    Perhaps David could clear this up for those of us who are confused.

    The reason why David says not to eat dextrose until you have finished withdrawal is basically because your body is craving sugar and anything sweet, you eat the dextrose you may actually overeat and hence put on weight.  I did consume dextrose before my withdrawal was finished and I think it helped me (especially those times of month).  Eventually I just stopped having things after dinner, I just wasn't enjoying it and realised it was more of a habit which is another thing to watch out for, replacing one habit with another.

    Yeah, I agree with Janelle, a good tip. Also, I find if I eat too many Anzac biscuits (the only thing I ever bake with dextrose) I get diarrhoea, and so does my partner, who isn't on this with me any more!!  He fell off the wagon & never got back on again.  So, when they are in the house, I limit myself to half a one maybe 3 times a week. I was going to freeze them this time but I forgot. (This time they turned out terrific.)  

    So, yes you can share them around, and reap the accolades for your great cooking skills, but as David says, they are Treats, an occasional thing, not an everyday thing. 

    Good luck people, it won't happen overnight, but it will happen, you can do it.!!
