    Hi Maria,

Welcome to the club! I buy dextrose at Big W in the brewery section. It's a about $3.00 a kilo. I bags the Waverly Gardens Big W though :)

As for not losing weight, it's only the first week. Your body is still working out what is going on and detoxing. I noticed the biggest thing was feeling less bloated and 'poofy'. Everyone looses it differently. I lost it very very quickly, whereas my Mum lost it slowly.

Hang in there, and make sure there is no sneaky fructose making it's way into your body.

    Hello Maria and welcome
Don't think about dextrose until your body has settled down to having no sugar. Dextrose, although not harmful to the body at all in the same way as fructose, has as many calories and, as David says in his books, while the body is still suffering from the fructose addiction, can have the same effect as fructose by raising the insulin levels in the body.

It's best to simply go savory at first, maybe for a month or two, before having anything with dextrose in it and then it's only for the odd treat, maybe once a week or so and only in small amounts.

As for losing weight, as Sally says, we all lose weight in different amounts. I lost after two weeks, one kilo and then lost a further nine over about three months. I also cut my carbs down as I have that gene which causes me to gain weight if I have too many of them, whereas my husband lost weight by simply cutting out fructose.................and he didn't want or need to lose weight, he simply wished to lower his cholesterol and sugar, both of which have dropped to normal after five months.

So, good luck with your journey, you will have plenty of support on both this forum and the sweet poison free forum.
    cheers
    Freda

Sally, thank you for letting me know where to buy dextrose.  I checked our local Coles and they looked at me funny.  I'll go for a trip to Big W this evening or on the weekend.

Our Coles doesn't stock it either, but IGA does.

    Hi there,

I've got a similar problem (if not worse!) i've been Fructose free for a week and i've gained 3 kilo!! How is that possible??? I'm pretty frustrated.
I've not had any fructose except 1 piece of fruit a day (should I cut that out too?).
I am having bread, cheeses and full cream milk, which I don't normally have though, perhaps I should drop the calories a bit??
    Any advice is really appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi Kylie,

First thing to do is turf the scales for a few weeks. The more you worry about how much you're not losing the harder it will be to stick with it initially.

I am not the best example as I am one of those people who just lost weight without doing anything other than not consuming fructose. My Mum and financee on the other hand needed to try much harder to get anywhere. I found they ate a lot more carb in the first few months while adjusting to the new lifetsyle. They also ate things we normally wouldn't eat a lot of like pizza, lasanga, chips, etc, all carbs. I suspect each of us has a threashold of how much carb our bodies can tollerate before the weight starts to pile on.
And once they stopped eating for the emotion of it, and started to recognise when the body was actually full, the weight began to reverse. If food is still a big emotional part of your life then you are not at the point of knowing when to stop eating.
Keep going, ignore the weight aspect fo it for now. Get used to living without fructose and the rollercoaster sugar puts your body through. We place far too much importance on food. We should be eating to live, not living to eat.
Kepp at it. We're here for you. :)
