I have a strong family history of Diabeties 2 and I am eliminating sugar to see if I can prevent diabeties 2.  I am not overweight and I wonder if anyone else has tried this and had better blood readings since eliminating sugar?

    Cheers, Janet

    Hi David

I would be interested if there has been any research on eliminating sugar to prevent diabeties 2 and I would also be interested in your opinion regarding any difference it might make.

    Cheers, Janet

    Hello Janet

I suggensted to my husband to go sugar free, when both his sugar and cholesterol readings were too high.

The first sugar test showed that he needed to have a glucose tolerance test.

After 5 months sugar free both his sugar and cholesterol readings are down to just below normal.

As a "bonus" he has also lost 6 kilos which he didn't need to lose!

    cheers

    Hi Freda,

I was wondering if your husband still has dextrose or is he completly sugar free (as in having no sweet stuff) ? I'm really interested in this because both of my parent have type 2 diabetes and everything that comes with it! I'm trying to convince them that this is the way to go, but having little success so far!

    Kind regards, Kellie

    Hi Kellie
Yes, my husband still eats as much sweetness as he did, but it is all made with dextrose. Instead of honey and jam on his toast for breakfast, he now has Rice Malt Syrup (from Coles) and Vegemite. I make his bread using dextrose and he takes muffins to work, again dextrose with frozen blueberries and his after dinner snack biscuits are all made with dextrose too. He's in seventh heaven because his childhood was all home made cakes and biscuits!!!!

As for convincing your parents, this is so hard. I expect they are in their 80s?
People that age find it very hard to change and I think they may be frightened to do something that their doctor hasn't told them to do and even my doctor doesn't believe in the FF way.

All you can do is keep on being FF yourself and maybe your example will show them, especially if your own sugar levels drop.

    cheers

    Hi Freda

Thanks for that feedback it's very encouraging, I have lost 3 kilos I didn't need to loose and I hope I have the same outcome when I'm next checked.

    Cheers

    Hi Freda

Thanks and I will let you know.  I've only eliminated sugar for 2 months, mainly fruit juice and dried fruit otherwise I'm not a big sugar eater - just the main ones it turns out - I'm due around October for another full blood test so I will let you know.

    Cheers

    Janet
