Confusion reins supreme

There is a whole heap of conflicting stories happening so here is my take on it.
Anything in the cupboard is 3g per 100g or less. If it is over then it doesn't fit, full stop. Anything in the fridge is 5g per 100g or ml, same deal.
I read a comment that if this is the case then food would be very limited. I suggest people keep looking cause there is truck loads out there.

So roughly here is what we eat.
Breakfast Jalna BioDynamic Organic Whole milk yoghurt, 1 kiwifruit diced (half for me and half for my wife Diana) and 1 cup of (I think) Sanitarium rice puffs.
    Yoghurt 4.1g per 100g
Kiwi friut where ever it comes on the scale,
    Puffs 0 sugar

Then we eat lots of salads with our own dressings, eg rice wine vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice.
Lots of stirfries, olive oils and chilli, Baked vegies, chicken, fish,
Rice cakes or vita wheats with avocado and baked pumpkin dips, sour cream, cheese.

    We do not go hungry.
What we don't do is have sweets or deserts or even try and make cakes etc using artificial sweeteners.

I see so many people on here coming up with recipes for cakes and sweets. You have to change your mind set if you want it to work. Your mind and your taste buds have to forget sweet totally. By making alternatives you are not changing your mind set, you are only rearranging it.

If you need convincing next time you do your shopping have a look at other peoples trolleys and do a mental assessment of the sugar they are wheeling around in it.

So look at what's available on the shelves and trust me if you look there is plenty, and remember addiction is largely mind set. Change your mind set.

Remember to keep under the 3g per 100g for everything in the pantry and 5g in the fridge.

As for the talked about "I'm full" food switch it is there but some times only very vaguely and other times it will stop you dead in your tracks. Don't rely on it kicking in, you will need to use some discretion at times.

Stepping down of soapbox now and going to eat some fruit, a lemon actually and you can eat them peel and all :-)
    Cheers all

    Hello Craig
lovely to read your interesting comments, thanks so much for your contribution.

Yes, everything you say is fine Craig, except .....................3gms of actual sugar even in the fridge, unless it's made up of lactose (milk products), lactose can be any amount of grams cause it doesn't count as it's not fructose.

Again, with fridge products, if you get honeyed ham, it has sugar in its ingredients list and some of those dairy dips, you need to check the contents of those, I saw a chilli dip in Franklins the other day which had 4.5 grams of sugar in the ingredients list. Then there's the fruit cheeses, sweet as hell, still fridge products.

I make some of the recipes from David's Sweet poison quit plan, with dextrose, not artificial sweeteners,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,deserts for special occasions and biscuits for my husband. We don't overeat them, in fact I hardly ever eat them.

It's different for all of us, how we travel on this FF way. There is no perfect way, only what each of us finds suites our individual needs. You have found that all savory works for you, and I have found a fairly low carb, mostly savory way works well for me. But there are others who sweeten their cereals and hot drinks with dextrose and still lose weight and feel good.

Variety is what this is all about. and it's so much fun reading what everyone has found. It's such an adventure.

    cheers

Ah Freda, yes my bad, my fridge stuff is lactose, hence the 5 grams. We don't eat fruit cheeses or store bought dips. Our roast pumpkin dip consists of baked pumpkin mashed with sour cream and cracked pepper. We make a lot of avo dips using fresh chilli and sour cream. So I rephrase fridge stuff is 3g or less except for diary.

I still stand by the mind set though. For me anyway. I have absolutely no desire to eat sweet things now of any description. Now that I have rechanged my own mindset and my tastebuds a lemon actually tastes quite sweet so I can only imagine how bad a snickers bar would taste now :-)

The most immediate benefit of ff was no indigestion, something I have lived with all my life. This happened virtually overnight. The next benefit is I reckon I am actually suffering with low blood pressure. Won't know for sure untill I get my monitor back and start recording my bp again. Fingers crossed on that one because I have been on bp meds for 7 odd years now. Will keep people posted on that one.

    Cheers

Freda is low carb really good with this.  I am not having sugar but have added a bit of bread and plain biscuits to my diet, keeping it really low on the sugar scale but still not losing weight like I thought I would. As I am over 60 and over 100kg I really thought I would lose heaps quickly then slow down around the 95 kg mark. Any suggestions

Hello Pam, well this works for me. I found that when I had cut out sugar completely and got over the withdrawal period, (this time varies for everyone) My "full up" monitor kecked in and I could eat a protien meal and fill up and not feel hungry for hours. I have low carb because I'm one of those people who have a problem digesting carbs and so put on weight easily. My husband on the other hand can eat a lot of carbs and still loses weight and he doesn't even need to.

You may have to experiment for yourself to see which way works for you, maybe go low carb for a couple of weeks and see if this starts the weight loss. I am 69 and have lost an initial 10kilos and have plateaued out. But I don't wish to lose much more as I would look too thin. and this is soooooooooo aging.

Good luck with your journey, it's an interesting one and you will have lots of support on the and The free sweet poison forum

    cheers

    Freda

Craig - I am starting my withdrawal period and was wondering if you would list some of the recipes for the dips?
    Thanks,

Hi, Wilkie, nice to hear some positive thoughts on the forum, not that others don't ever write them, I do agree that it's a good thing to be able to change your mind set, but some people aren't as strong as others. That's why they want to use dextrose, to keep the sweet things there. My only area where I've got a problem is with coffee. I used to have mine really really sweet, and with added caramel!! But slowly, I've come to realise I just like it sweetened, not the coffee itself, it's just too strong. When I went on the leptin re-set regime I gave up coffee for around 2 weeks, but missed it so went back on it. So I have 1 sachet of Natvia plus 1 Splenda or Nutra Sweet tab as well. I usually am having 4 -5 mugs per week so it's not like I am having 4 - 5 a day!!!!  I have lost 16 kilos, but still have another 20 to lose, I agree with Freda about getting too skinny at our age! lol......I wish!!

I have decided that I don't want my life to be without my coffee now & then, so have compromised.
Otherwise, I, too am around 98% savoury, now & then do have lo-cal jelly with cream. But I really prefer my almonds after dinner, I feel fuller longer. I have the jelly if I run out of nuts. I, too have to be lo carb to keep my weight from going up instead of down.

The dextrose baked goods are supposed to be just as treats, for special occasions, parties etc. Not for every day consumption.  I don't think some people read the book properly, or just don't want to see it!  hehe

Good luck on your journey. Nice to hear your BP has found it's level. I had a blood test done recently and all my readings were normal. I did have a slightly high BP, but I did have an infection, after this was fixed up, my BP returned to normal.
