Hi,   I have 2 things I have been pondering...

    1.  David, you mention Marmite is a nono for sugar - can you clarify for me if you are referring to Marmite - as produced in Australia.  I use Marmite, but it is sent to me from the UK (thanks Mum) and the ingrediants are v similar to vegemite...?  The 2 are different in taste. Thanks!

And secondly, I have been making things like cheese scones for the kids for morning tea - but i am still a bit unsure as to whether flour is ok..? Can anyone clarify please!

    Thanks,

    Jo

    Hello Joanna

Australian Marmite is a no no, here is the Website with the ingredients and Nutritional information list:http://www.sanitarium.com.au/products/spreads/marmite

It contains 11% sugar which is very high whereas Vegemite only contains 2.2% sugar and we try to keep below 3% of sugar in any product.

Any flour is ok, flour contains no sugar or fructose.

    cheers Freda

Hiya, Jo, I tried to find out for you, and on the way, found 'Ode to Marmite' which I thought was funny & cute!!

I have sent an e-mail to the UK Unilever Marmite shop!! Let's see if there's any sugar in it this way. Or, I guess, you could just look at the label on the jar you already have? Or have not any more?  lol....or you could just ask Mum next time you ring/e-mail each other?!!!!

I'll let you know if I get a reply!!  Cheers, Jo.....

You are quite right about the marmite - i went to the UK marite website and looked up the ingredients which are clearly listed - no sugar!  It's great when you find a favourite snack that you can have, and I'm finding that there are lots of them.  (Peanut butter on buttered toast is one of mine.)

    Good luck and keep going!

Sandra, watch out which brand you buy, some do have sugar in them. Have you tried to make your own?

    Here's a link to a recipe:-

    http://kissmyspatula.com/2009/06/10/homemade-peanut-butter/

Don't you just love the name?  lol...

You can make almond butter too.  When I'm not broke, I'm going to try the recipe, but without the honey and the oil, or maybe just a tad oil. I don't like peanut butter, it's my partner who's addicted, and he's allergic to peanuts!! Well, maybe not allergic, but has an intolerance to them.  But he refuses to give them up....

If anyone does make it, can they let me know how it comes out?

    Thanks
