Whats the thought on dried fruit in baked goods?
For example i have a recipe for muffins which contain 40g of sultanas (which going by the book is about 130 grapes) and makes 10 muffins, so approximately 13 grapes per muffin. if that was your fruit intake for the day would that be acceptable? Also i have a recipe for date and walnut muffins which has 6 dates in the mix and makes 6 muffins, so one date per muffin???
So is dried fruit ok if you only consumed what you would in whole fruit, eg one prune = one plum?

I guess it would be OK, as long as you keep your fructose intake down for the rest of the day.  I haven't touched dried fruit in ages, I used to hate sultanas they were always too sweet for me but I can just imagine having them now, they would be over bearing!  Depending on how long you've been off sugar for you probably could decrease the amount of dextrose you put in them too.  Keep in mind dextrose goodies are just treast, be careful of over eating and having too many.

Yes, I agree, I have become mainly savory, I find that whenever I eat anything, even with dextrose in it, it sets up more sweet cravings.

I don't think that ancient caveman ate dextrose goodies. Just the occasional hit of honey when he could find it and get past the bees. And berries in the Autumn to set him up with a fat store for the winter. The original Australians were very slim until we got at them with our white flour and sugar.

    cheers Freda

Hi, Kelly, there's 37% fructose in sultanas, and 11.9% in prunes, here's the link to the Food standards site that shows you the fructose in all foods. Link here for sultanas, just scroll down to fruit;-

This is the link for everything:-

The key to making this lifestyle work is to change the way you think. Just because we have always made a recipe a certain way doesn't mean we must continue to do so. I personally wouldn't touch dried fruit so would make the muffins without. If you can’t make it without the sultanas, don’t make it.

    Just my opinion.
