Hi I'm a keen runner have been following the sugar free plan for a month now and it feels great just wanted to know if anyone out there does distance running,am planning on doing a 1/2 marathon this year and what sort of fluid replacement do you suugest to use as gatorade/powerade probably aren't going to do me any favours Cheers

I haven't actually tried this yet - am not a runner but a regular at the gym - but I think it would be ideal to make up your own drink sweetened with glucose/dextrose. Someone on this list made lemon cordial I think?

Unless anyone knows of a commercially available glucose based drink?

    Good luck!

HI Thanks for that I'll try the lemon cordial. Water is great no doubt about it but when you've used all your glycogen stores usually about 90 minutes into a run you need to replace them and have some quick release energy coming in or you wouldn't be able to finish the run and at that stage water just doesn't cut it

I also would be interested in what's available as I've just started with the program but are running 1/2 marathons this year. Also are there any sports gels that people are aware of that don't contain fructose?

I have a friend who is heavily into Dragon-boat racing. They wop a few glucose tablets into them before each race, as it is a very physically intensive activity. Might be worth a try, and it ain't got no fructose  :-)

Here you go, home made electrolyte drink
    http://www.fitday.com/fitness-articles/nutrition/healthy-eating/how-to-make-a-homemade-electrolyte-drink.html

You could maybe add some glucose/dextrose instead of some of the fruit juice, although I think lemons and limes are ok once in the body. I have also seen recipes with bi-carb added, also a pinch of epsom salts for magnesium.
Hope one of the recipes works for you.

Here is another site with recipe. You could replace the sugar with glucose/dextrose powder

And one more worth looking at
