    Hi

I was just wondering if anyone has noticed the same response when eating.

I spent 3 weeks sugar free (before falling .. another story).

I noticed that especially for lunch, I was hungry so would eat.
After eating a "normal" size meal (eg a salad sandwich) even though I had eaten and walked away.
I found that my body and hunger pains actually got worse and "almost unbearable" it has been taking a good 40 minutes to distract my brain to something else to "fight" the hunger. Quite often using a 600ml water to assist.

I have found that once I fight through that feeling and it has gone I do not feel hungry for several hours.

Is there something Im missing in my understanding of what Im eating or is this a normal "stage" of getting rid of the sugar addiction.

Please take into account that yes, breakfast has been eaten in the morning, so I do not feel Im trying to skip meals.

    regards
    sb

If you really were fructose-free for three weeks I suspect that your appetite-control system was functioning, even if not 100%. So you should not have been feeling hungry after eating a hearty meal which didn't contain any fructose.  I'm not sure about this (David?) but like a recovering smoker, you may be battling "habituation"  which is a lot harder to overcome than "addiction".

I suggest that you re-read the sections in both books - SP & SPQP on withdrawal symptoms. and follow the advice there. You should NOT need willpower, just resolution . .  a desire to be free.

I also suggest that you follow David's advice and keep a "sugar diary" - not just the sugar you can see, but your best estimate of that contained in the foods you eat. You may need to get a scale to measure your portion size and get the sugar content from the percentage shown in the nutritional information panel on the product package. Multiply them together to get the grams of sugar in the portion.

What happened when you fell off the baker's van? How did it come about?

    Hello Scott and welcome
It seems to me, that if you are so hungry after lunch, that you are not eating enough saturated fat with your meal. It's the fat that makes for a "full up" feeling. Also, are you doing a lot of exercise?
David says that exercise will make us hungrier............the more we do, the more the body needs to make up for depleted energy.
Make sure you put plenty of butter on your sandwich, have a bit of full fat cheese in there. I keep cartons of full fat cream and whole milk yoghurt in my fridge especially for those 'still hungry' times after a meal. For me, it's the evening meal, I used to have desert afterwards and even after fourteen months fructose free, may still find a little hungering after dinner, so a few mouthfuls of yoghurt or cream will do the trick.
I'm not saying don't exercise, the body likes some exercise, I gardened this evening and lo and behold, a little extra hunger came in.
Also, maybe you simply aren't having enough to eat, I agree with John, that it does take time for the appetite control to come in...............with me, it took six months...........but it does start to work gradually and as long as you don't slip back into fructose eating again, you should be ok.
Best of luck on your journey, there are lots of people here and on the free Sweet Poison forum who will be delighted to share their experiences with you.
    cheers

    Hi Scott

I had a similar problem (and still do if I get lazy). I can eat what might be sen as a good lunch and then I just want another one. For me the solution is fat. If I get a good amount of healthy fat with my lunch I am fine. So if I'm having a salad it has to have an avocado or a couple of eggs or a good fatty dressing, otherwise I might as well eat nothing and I will be looking for something else as soon as I am finished.

Some of us (quite strongly) believe that bread is pretty much as evil as sugar and is not good at all for satisfying hunger. If you must have a sandwich make sure it has a good amount of protein and most importantly (broken record-like) FAT.

And another good filler, Scott is nuts, if I feel peckish, mid afternoon, I will have a handful of nuts and maybe an unsweetened organic cocoa with full cream milk. And, of course, nuts are very nice and fatty too.
That little combo will see me over to my dinner.
Mind you, lately, I haven't been needing this snack, tend to find I've forgotten about it and suddenly it's dinner time. So things changed gradually for me, everyone is different and I think that the younger one is, the quicker things will happen. Which is why, I think, it took so long for my appetite control to work for me. ................I am 70.
    cheers
