    Hi all,

went cold turkey 4 weeks ago, hubby is fine, has lost 5 kilos and has found it easy...me on the other hand!! The cravings have dropped off, but I have been hit with the worst insomnia, I have had bad insomnia over the years, but nothing like the last week. Is this my body still getting used to loads less sugar? Anyone else has this problem? My head is clear, but as for feeling fantastic, I do not because I am not getting any good quality sleep. Any thoughts/suggestions? Thanks! Jane

That does sound awful!  I haven't had anything like chronic insomnia, but I do find I sleep better if I have been active, as opposed to those days when i just sit at my desk...

Good luck! And well done for getting this far, the hardest part should be behind you now.

Hello Jane and welcome. And well done for lasting this far.

I don't know how old you are, but our Melatonin levels drop after menopause and this may be simply coinciding with your cutting the sugar out. Or you may be a younger person with dodgy Melatonin levels.

I have sleep problems which have got worse as I have got older and despite being fairly active have had to resort to looking into getting Melatonin to help get my sleeping back to some normality. I buy it from the USA, but it can be bought in Australia with a prescription from your doctor.

If this is your problem, maybe a visit to the doctor to get a script to try it out. If it solves your problem, buying it from the USA, even with postage is cheaper than getting it here. Get back to me and let me know and I'll give you the website.

    cheers

Hey, Freda, sounds like the go. I am 46, so sort of menopausal but not yet. I think it is just getting older, I was a shift worker for years and I think it messed with my body. I will go to the Dr and get a script and check it out -thanks for a great tip!! I'll let you know how I go!

I suggest you find a doctor you will write you a compounding chemist prescription. The stuff the ordinary chemists provide is not effective.

Hi there, not sure if you can get this in AUS but its natural melatonin and you just drink it about 20 mins before bed, worked a treat! there is just enough in the bottle to get you back into a good sleeping pattern.  Good luck!  http://www.tru2u.co.nz/

If it's concentrated cherry juice wouldn't it be loaded with fructose??

You can buy it online, but it's not cheap. I don't know what they charge for postage.

    Hi John
what amount of grams of melatonin should be in the compounding chemist's script, my doctor doesn't know and that's why I get it from the USA, I had heard this about the chemist's Melatonin............... that it's not really effective.
    cheers

Thanks everyone for the input, I will go and ask for the compounded script - I work in Sydney CBD so there are a few compounding chemists around. Appreciate the input!!!
