Hi My name is Kaye and I am from New Zealand..I have not as yet read the book but have ordered it and hopefull it should be here within 10 days...I saw the programme on 60 mins 2 days agoe and thought this is for me ...I have tried to open some of the food guides and some open up but others don't ..I gather you are surpose to keep the sugar to under 10grams per day??? ...Are we surpose to watch the carbs we eat as well ..???eg potatoes ..I know it is simular to Aitkins Diet but you can at least eat low sugar bread ...?? Is this correct..Just need pointing in the right direction until the books get here ...Thanks...

You try not to eat added sugars. That's it. Eat real foods and watch the sugar.

I watch carbs but that's not part of the Sweet Poison message, that's up to you and what your body needs.

My food looks a bit like this most days:
B:  Either frittata, veg rosti, bacon and eggs, french toast made from grain free bread, yogurt with berries and toasted coconut and/or almonds, or dinner leftovers.

L: Often looks like breakfast, or a salad with poached eggs, make rice free sushi, a UFO from the freezer etc.

D: Just about anything. Meat and veg, stir fry, curry, pasta occasionally, veg meal occasionally...

Personally I  rarely eat bread unless it's one I've made - either grain free or sourdough which I make for the kids, I eat a small amount of pasta maybe once a fortnight, same with rice, a little bit of potato sometimes, grain free baked stuff a few times a week. That's what works for me, you have to work out what works for YOU.

    Read/re-read the Addiction section.

As Lisa says, watch your added sugar intake so anything processed. There should be heaps of info on the website so get reading!  In the Sugar Guides there is a handy purse size table of what is safe, your call and what is not safe to consume.  It will take some time to get used to reading labels but you do get used to it.  Everyone is different so some people can eat things like bread and pasta while others cannot.  You just need to find what works for you and your lifestyle.  I have found that carbs don't work to well for me, although I haven't cut them out completey I just cut back on the amount I have.  Basically this is my day:

B: Protein shake (I was previously having scrambled eggs with cheese and ham cooked in butter, but I don't get time anymore to cook breaky so I now have a shake)

L: Fritatta with ham and feta or ricotta cheese plus some other sort of protein, being mince or chicken

D: Can vary, some sort of protein with a little bit of carbs and salad or veg (eg. spag bog, heaps of mince with a small portion of pasta).

I have cut back on morning and afternoon tea now and don't really require it anymore, I just serve myself more fats and protein with my other meals to help keep me going.
