Help, I have been invited to afternoon tea for a friend's birthday - don't want to be the only one not eating - any suggestions besides taking my own plate as this is not possible - our town does not sell dextrose.

Somewhere in David's books he says "party food is for parties"  -  so have a LITTLE pig-out and go back to healthy living tomorrow.  Or, take your own food - if you were a diabetic, or were lactose intolerant, your hostess would understand. Just say that you are on a sugar-free diet.

Yours must be a funny town if you can't buy home-brew ingredients. That's where you find DEXTROSE.. Just make sure it's pure glucose, as they also sell "brewer's sugar" which has other funny stuff in it.

    Thanks John,

Attended afternoon tea and had two full cream flat whites and nothing to eat, when chocolates were handed around just said no and did not feel deprived.  This is certainly a new experience for me.  I am only into week four so think I would still be in the danger period for a relapse if I had a little pig out - would welcome other peoples comments  - yes live in a small town and no they don't sell dextrose - when I was visiting our nearest major city went to a health food store in the major shopping centre and they were out of dextrose and also visited Coles where I was informed they no longer had a brewer's section - does anyone know of a store online that sells dextrose.

    Here you are:http://professionalwhey.com.au/product/dextrose/
This company has very nice pure Dextrose and they get it to you very quickly. Bit expensive compared to brewing shop Dextrose.

    cheers

    Hi Maggie,

I just ordered some Dextrose from this online home brew store. It's slightly more expensive per kilo then buying it in a home brew store once postage is included but still pretty reasonable.

    Cheers,

    Sam :)

As someone else said, you can get dextrose delivered.  As for parties, having a 'little something' can start the cravings, so if you feel you need to, just look for things that are likely to be low sugar.  For example, a cream bun is a bread roll with cream in it.  Unless they put sugar in the cream, the jam is your only major worry ( yes, there's tiny amounts of sugar in the roll, but we're talking about making the most of it, overall, it's going to be less sugar than a white chocolate cheese cake, say )

I ordered 9 kilos (3 x 3kg bags) from Dave's home brew and it was $51 so about $5.66 per kilo - not to bad delivered :)
