Anyone made a homemade sports energy drink with dextrose/glucose?

My husband has taken to drinking gatorade or V or other revolting sports drinks - he is a bricklayer and feels he needs something for energy. I'm thinking a home made glucose drink would help, does anyone have any experience of this? All the receipes I've found online have fructose and other stuff I'd rather avoid.

    Thanks

You can buy glucose tablets at the chemist. They are quite cheap and can be swallowed WITH WATER :-)  I have a friend who is into dragon-boat racing and the crew wallop a few down before each race to provide a quick energy boost.

Just replace the fructose with more glucose and leave the other nasties out !!  I suspect it's mostly marketing, if you make him something sweet and cold, he won't notice the difference to a 'sports' drink.

The main reason Gatorade helped the sports team who first used it so much, was that before then, the kids got no drink during a game at all, and several died from heat exhaustion every year.  The rest is just marketing.

I use glucose power, 2 teaspoons (available at Woolworths and Coles) with a Shotz Electrolyte (available at many bike shops and on the internet at www.carboshotz.com) tablet which contains all the minerals lost in exercise but no sugar.  This mix in sports water bottles provides all the energy I need on pretty extreme bike rides of over 100km.
