    David,

I think I recently read somewhere that Dextrose is rapidly absorbed into the blood stream and therefore should be avoided by diabetics and people with high cholesterol.

Would you care to comment on this statement.

My wife and I have recently decided to settle on organic rice syrup as a alternative to sugar.

Would you consider this a wise move?

    Thank you for your time.

I can't give you medical advice about dextrose and absorption rates - check with your doctor. But I rather wonder. After all it is just another form of glucose (it may have a molecule of water attached to the glucose molecule - not sure).  Have a look at PP 55, 89 & 129 of Sweet Poison Quit Plan . Page 89 seems to answer your question. How long is it since you started being fructose-free? It should be avoided as a substitute for sucrose during the withdrawal period.

Organic Rice Syrup is OK as the sugar is maltose and that is metabolised as glucose. I use it as a honey substitute. Hopefully, as you get accustomed to a sugar-free life, your desire for sweet-tasting stuff will decline. Although I must admit, after 12 months,  that I still use a sweetener (Splenda) in my coffee.

I don't think David answers on these forums, you need to ask him directly.  I also think that anything that is related to your immediate health, a doctor is the best person to ask.
