Hi, I am only on Day 2 of cutting sugar and I am blown away by the extent of my addiction. It feels just like giving up smoking..that empty, gnawing, light-headed feeling. But hey i did give up smoking...it only took 10 years! LOL! I really didn't think I would have much trouble with this sugar caper as I don't drink soft drinks or juice. When i got to work yesterday at 3pm I was feeling odd then I realised that usually the first thing I do is have a cup of coffee with sugar. I work in a high-pressure, deadline driven environment and sugary snacks seems to keep everyone going. I finally had a banana and that seemed to settle me a bit. I am eating heaps...nuts and crackers and cheese etc to try and fill the void. Is this OK? Is it OK to have a couple of pieces of fruit a day? I am hoping that all this eating will pass with the addiction. I have tried just about every diet known to man only to lose weight and  put it and more back on. I am just trying to focus on being healthy now (but of course I would still love to lose 10-15kg). Any tips gratefully received

Dinah, what a relief to read your comment!  I'm feeling exactly the same.  I can't believe the amount of nuts and crackers I ate yesterday, but today is better.  And I've just tried Kaarina's Chocolate Cake which is fantastic.  Good luck.

Terri, good to hear that you are experiencing the same thing!

And Hayley, you have given me some hope that it is worth it to keep going. Would love to hear more of your experience and any tips you have

Dinah ... that all sounds pretty standard for the withdrawal period :-) ... Don't worry how much you eat - just let your apetite tell you when to stop (this will seem like tightroping walking without a net at first) ... all you need to do is - Do not eat any sugar (you might even want to cut back on the fruit during withdrawal).  During this munchy stage you will tend to want to eat everything that's not nailed down, but that's normal at this point.  Once withdrawal is complete this will calm down and you will be able to walk past a jar of nuts :-)

Hi Dinah.  I'm still eating too much, but have noticed today that I'm not as hungry as the last few days - this is my seventh day. So hang in there, I'm thinking things are only going to improve from here on!

Unfortunately I had a bad weekend and fell off the wagon. Not drastically but I did have an ice-cream on Saturday and then afternnon tea on Sunday (piece of cake and a biscuit) But I am back on track today but i suppose I will have to start all over again! I think I have put on weight which is a bit depressing too! Oh dear!

Hi, well I have beenback on track for the past four days and I am finding it so much easier. I had to babysit my niece & nephew for a few days and i was serving them up cake and biscuits and really did not find it hard to resist. Weird! We went to the movies and I had popcorn and a Coke zero and I was just so full for the rest  ofthe day that i couldn't eat dinner! I do feel my appetite controls are kicking back in althugh I do feel that I have put on weight. When I am stressed like on deadline at work I stillhave cravings but it's much less severe. Should I try dieting or just go with it for a few more weeks?
