See I'm like you.  I can be good good good all month but when those hormones kick in I'm stuffed.  I even went on a binge this month and during one night I ate everything I was craving, chocolate, toast, icing, cake.  I put on 3kg and now I'm slowly losing it, most of it was fluid I guess.  I just had to get it out of my system because I was craving so badly.  My mind wanted the treats more than my tummy but it was all I could think about for days.  It's easy to say to keep it out of your house but when you have a family who won't come on the wagon with you its hard.  MMs kept screaming at me and I said no so many times before I caved.  I guess it's ok though because I had to get it out of my system and I'm only 66-69kg anyway so not overweight enough that it affects me too much.  Just means 58kg is a little further away right now.  At 42yo I'm finding my hormones are all over the shop anyway and I started HRT two weeks ago which probably had something to do with the cravings.

So the whole point I wanted to make is this.  If you are really craving something sweet and your scared you might fall off the wagon go and get yourself some Atkins bars or something so you at least can satisfy that sweet tooth without too much damage like I had.  Thats my plan anyway.

Hormones can play a very big part I make sure I keep a stock of dextrose stuff in the freezer however since I've been 20 months with no sugar things taste really sweet for me so I only use half the amount of dextrose, currently I got chocolate cake, banana muffins and mini lemon cheesecakes.

Agreed - I have a freezer full of frozen berries from the summer, and I whip up a dextrose sweet when I feel like I just have to have something sweet.  I try to keep the house free of options that would equate to backsliding.

Be careful when cutting out this food group that you don't overdo it on other food groups that aren't that healthy because of oil and/or salt content because "you can eat anything as long as it doesn't have sugar in it".  Make sure veggies and some fruit are still the main part of your eating plan, and remember that the fit of your jeans is a better indicator than the numbers on the scales. Keep your eye on the goal of becoming healthy, not just thin, and it'll help take the pressure off a bit.

Hi, this is my second go at quitting suger, the first time my appetite was still ramped but i didnt crave suger. But i only keeped it up for two weeks. this time is a lot easier as i gave up all diet soft drinks and gave up fruit all togeather. I found i ate way to much fruit, which is heathy but to much of it can still give you a big suger hit. Its been a month now and im finding i dont want food all the time, its quite amazing really. In 2 weeks time i plan to start eating my fruit again , just two or three pieces of fruit no more. I just felt for me i had to do it this way to really detox from suger, and its worked. I also made sure i ate plenty of protien and lots of vegatables. I no longer crave sugar at all, and there has been a couple of days were ive had to make myself eat something, for me thats really unusual as i have an appetite of a horse. Im also sleeping better and have more energy. Its hard at first but if you can stick it out its all worth it in the end.

    Opinions, feedback, own stories?
[1] Have you followed David's advice on going Cold Turkey? For example have you removed everything tempting from the house?
[2] You will know that your appetite-control system is working when before you have finished your meal you have that feeling of satiety "just can't eat another mouthful".
[3] Try making a one or two week inventory of ALL your fructose intake. If necessary  weigh you portions and calculate the amount of fructose. Keep it to under 1 gram per  day. Especially look for sugar hidden in processed foods. As a rough guide half of the percentage of "sugars" may be regarded as fructose. Avoid anything with more than 2% "sugars" [5% for yoghurt].
[4] When you crave something sweet [whatever euphemism you use for that] try distracting yourself by moving away, checking your email, walking around the block - anything to change your focus for a few minutes. If it's anything like quitting smoking, and I suspect it's a lot like it, the craving only lasts less than 5 minutes.
[5] When you are experiencing craving try to identify the feeling, emotion, pictures, sounds etc associated with the desire to eat something sweet. Bringing these into awareness and just deciding to let go of them is often enough to dissolve the urge.
[6] Don't expect anyone else to have any magic solutions. YOU have to do it FOR yourself.
    [7] DON'T give up . .  the effort is VERY worthwhile :-)
